For my entire career as a student, JC Penney’s had the very same back to school commercial that would start airing at the end of July. And every year, I would just want to crumble like the dramatic person I am upon hearing that commercial. “Come on, kids. It’s back to school. Gotta dress your best. Gotta look real cool.” Ugh. It makes me twitch just thinking about it because I would get so upset those words were reminding me that my pool time, go-cart time, and late mornings of Regis and Kathie Lee were about to be over. I tried to find the commercial, but my efforts were fruitless. Maybe it was for the best.
Even though I haven’t heard that commercial, I’m still reminded of those back to school feelings this time of year. There’s dread of early mornings. There’s nervousness even when you’ve been teaching for a million years. There’s excitement to see everyone again. There’s sadness from an empty wallet of preparing your classroom. There’s hope for a smooth year. Although I’m not teaching right now, I thought it would still be a good idea to share some back to school garb. (Compiling all of these options made me want to grab a pack of Flair pens and head back to work.) Dresses were my favorite to wear to school especially at the beginning of the year when it’s pretty toasty outside. Kat starts back to pre-planning today. Yes, today-August 2nd. That’s what living in the south gets you-a love for sweet tea, a voice that sounds like it’s dipped in molasses, and starting back to school when its 7 million degrees outside. Oy.
The upside of having the summer off and then heading back to work? You need to buy You feel like you deserve some new clothes. If you’re heading back to school, have a look at some of these ideas. Or maybe you just want something new to wear since you didn’t have 8 weeks off during the summer. You really deserve it then.

I hope some of these made you want to decorate a bulletin board and sharpen a ton of pencils because they did me. If you’re heading back to school this week or sometime soon, good luck. You survived last year. That means this year will be a piece of cake-a piece of cake you’ll have to eat in 45 seconds whilst making copies and then sprinting to your room to make it before your class gets back from PE…but a piece of cake nonetheless.

Such cute dresses! Such teacher appropriate names for the dresses. I relate to all of them
Love the names! 🙂
Haha, I remember that song. I used to work at a JC Penney’s in high school too. I love the clothes you chose. I need some new clothes for work.
