Foods I don’t understand:
-Ribs/Wings: These seem like lots of messy, unattractive work to negate hunger.
-Crab legs: These also seem like lots of [expensive] work for little final product.
-Anything truffle flavored: Eww.
-Red velvet cake: Why do people go nuts for chocolate cake overloaded with food coloring? The only red velvet cake I understand is shaped like an armadillo.

-Tamales: Why go through all that work just to throw the shell away?
Now, let’s segue into my recipe for today: Tamale Pie
I decided to try this tamale pie recipe from 100 Days of Real Food even though I don’t want to eat an actual tamale because a. I love all of her recipes and b. it basically sounded like tacos with cornbread on top.

This is such a good recipe that we’ve enjoyed every time I’ve made it. A few things I did differently that maybe you would want to do too:
-I used ground turkey instead, and it’s still very tasty.
-An extra bell pepper was added because #vitaminC.
-I added a finely chopped zucchini and carrot. Seem weird? Maybe. Anytime I make tacos of some sort, I always chop up extra vegetables very finely in the food processor and add them. You don’t even know they’re in there, and then you’re meal is more nutrient dense. What an accomplishment.
-I changed the chili powder to 1 tablespoon and added 1 teaspoon of cumin.
Bada bing. Bada boom.

I recommend our favorite Oklahoma resident’s easy pico (with a little extra lime) to serve alongside it.
Hope you try this today…or tamale.

Looks delicious!! Can’t wait to try it! 🙂
Thanks, lady!
I was wondering what in the world I could make tonight that would be easy and different. You solved the problem for me.
Hope you like it!
Sounds delicious!
Yes ma’am!
It’s sooo delicious! My family loves it!!
Yes, queen.
I’m going to have to try that. I feel like all of my dinners are ugly but have good personalities…such a great description. Or I just make ugly food.
