It’s summer! (Not technically until June 21st…but whatever) Eating ice cream all the time with abandon is definitely a favorite, and we’ve joined Momfessionals and A Little Bit of Everything to present some other favorites from the week.

–I am never going to be someone who is extravagant. Am I extra in a lot of other ways? Absolutely. BUT I’m pretty frugal. I will use things until they are almost unusable as evidenced by my extremely cracked phone screen. So the fact that I bought these and am saying they are worth the money is a very big deal. If you listen to a podcast of any sort that is hosted by a woman, there is a strong chance you’ve heard of Rothy’s. They are shoes that are machine washable and are made from recycled material. During April and May, they did a half off special for healthcare workers and teachers to say “thank you” during the height of the pandemic, so technically, I didn’t pay full price. But OH. MY. WORD. I’m in love. The color is perfection, and they are SO comfortable.

–I was at Caroline’s house a few weeks ago, and I checked my phone and said, “Oh my gosh, they’ve already shipped!”
“What’s already shipped?”
“These high waisted shorts I bought from Express. I ordered them this morning, and they’ve already shipped.”
“Express? That’s still operational? No wonder they’ve shipped. They were thrilled to make a sale.”
Rude. But semi valid. I LOVED Express in high school, but I haven’t shopped there since. Another blogger that I follow (paleomg.com) does a lot of Express sponsored posts, so then I become victim to click-bait, and then my Instagram ads get infiltrated. It’s a cycle.
I have a ridiculously long torso. Let’s call a spade a spade, I’m ALL torso. My good friend Jennifer is 5’10”, and I’m 5’3″. If we are sitting down, we are the same height. Because of this circus freak middle, I’ve come to the conclusion that high-waisted bottoms are flattering for me. It gives my legs the illusion that they are longer. Ergo. I’m the grand marshall in the parade of the high-waisted trend, and I’m not mad about it.

Because Express was so excited to make a sale, they forgot to take the plastic security tag off. Now if it were a sweater, I could do like Stephanie Tanner when she steals DJ a Valentine sweater from Fashion Central and tie the security tag in a traditional 90s knot.

But these were shorts, not a sweater. Not as easy to hide. Now I could have very well gone to a mall with my receipt, and they would have gladly removed the tag. That’s too practical. I’m not about that. I found a tutorial on YouTube about burning the tag off. It worked beautifully. Dramatic in the Best Way does not encourage thievery, but in a pinch, this is a good skill to know.

-My first favorite is this little Peter Piper.

Our garden has been such a fun experience for Claire this summer. She is quite proud of herself and often tells me she is just like Mr. McGregor from Peter Rabbit.
-My next favorite is a book that I haven’t even started yet, but I’m so optimistic that it will win my heart over.

Emily Giffin’s books are my favorite. Her newest one just came out last week. If you need some easy summer reading or are heading to the beach, grab her books. I love them all except All We Ever Wanted, which was her last book. Don’t read that one. The ending was about as bad as the outcome of Titanic. All of her other ones are cute, fun reads that I always wish had 200 more pages.
-COLORS OF THE WORLD, SPICE UP YOUR LIFE. EVERY BOY AND EVERY GIRL, SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!

My final favorite today is the 21 Seasoning Salute from Trader Joes. I’ve been using it on vegetables when I roast them lately, and it’s become a staple.

Slam it to the left if you’re havin a good time. Shake it to the right if you know that ya feel fine.
Thanks for reading,

I used to shop Express in high school too! Had no idea they were still a thing. And I have been thinking on the Rothys, but just haven’t pulled the trigger. I have several pair of Ja-vie’s and I love love love those.
Emily Giffin is one of my favorites too. She hooked me in with Something Borrowed. I’ve read most of her books but have been too afraid to read All We Ever Wanted for that reason!! So thank you for validating my fears. Titanic endings are not my favorite.
Happy Weekends to you both!
Get the Rothys. You won’t regret it. You’ve survived a pandemic. You deserve them.
What a great list! I think I need those shoes.
For sure.
I must have those shoes. I’ll send my address.
Aren’t they precious?
That pic of Claire make me melt! Tell her she needs to come to our garden and pick some cucumbers!!❤️ We miss y’all so much! I just finished Giver of Stars – great book!
I’ll have to check that one out, and she’d love to. She’ll be right over.
