In July, I moved into a house and am living by myself for the first time ever. It’s a new normal that I’m slowly adjusting to. I need events on the calendar to look forward to, so I have instituted a once a month themed movie night at my house. If you’ve been around for a while, you know I love a themed event. This month’s theme: Salute the 90s.

Now, I think we can all agree that the 90s were a prime time in civilization, so I encouraged friends to come dressed in 90s attire if they wanted, bring their favorite childhood snack, and we’d watch a quintessential 90s film.
Should you do this? Absolutely you should. Decor was very simple because I either just printed things or raided my parents’ house. Shout out to Paula for always having the mentality of “you might need it.” She’s right. I DID need the original Titanic soundtrack and a tiger Beanie Baby.

I had 90s heartthrobs posted all over my kitchen cabinets, but we all know Devon Sawa was our hearts’ ultimate desire. Although, JTT was a close second.

Did I make cootie catchers and hang them all over my ceiling? Yes, I did.

The friends who came over are some of my closest, so they know my love of a theme pretty well. But I wanted the seriousness with which I’m taking themed movie night to be known as they came down the driveway.

My sweet friend, Marie, came early to help me set up. I went upstairs to finish getting ready and came down and she was playing with my Polly Pocket.

It was like my childhood exploded all over my table. Bagel bites. Little Debbies. Pringles. Gushers. Bugles. Fruit Stripe Gum. Pixie Sticks. And my fridge was stocked with Capri Suns and Kool-Aid Jammers. We all texted the day after because of the sugar hangovers.

Joanna Gaines has a recipe for homemade oatmeal cream pies. If you like butter (which apparently all my friends do), they were a hit.

Half of movie nights’ attendees indulged my 90s attire desire.

The moral? Sometimes it’s nice to throw your knowledge about sugar and preservatives out the window and be carefree. Jump on the themed movie bandwagon. Next month’s theme is Cereal and Serial. Me and the Captain make it happen.

You are so much fun!! This is awesome!
The nicest compliment anyone can give me is that I’m “fun”.
This is the cutest idea. I LOVED 90s too. I have been watching The Parent Trap with my girls a lot!
The Parent Trap is such a classic! Break out those Oreos and peanut butter and have a great evening!
