Hey to all you American women out there. I hope you have some fun 4th plans, and I hope your holiday is as patriotic as a Toby Keith song.
Let’s start by taking a walk down 4th of July memory lane. I met the father of my children and the man whose socks I would find right next to the hamper for all of my days on July 4th, 2013. He was stationed in Germany, and I had a friend there that “introduced” us on the phone. We chatted a while then on July 4th, I met him face to face at the international terminal at Hartsfield Jackson Airport-where all great stories begin. I had two friends “hiding” to the side of me just in case this Air Force pilot from New Jersey turned out to be a big weirdo. I don’t really know what they would have done if I’d given the signal, but it was comforting nonetheless.
Then on July 4th, 2019, we went to a baseball game, met some Duggars, and I would have his twin daughters just four days later. God-won’t He do it?
Need a sweet movie to watch? Try Fatherhood on Netflix. It’s based on a true story, which I love. It also is a movie that made me have both tears and some giggles, which I also love.
If I know I have a good breakfast to look forward to, it’s going to make me pop out of bed with a little more pep. That’s who I am. I don’t understand people who eat the same thing every single morning. How do they do that??? This little beauty was my breakfast a couple of times this week. It’s a strawberry overnight oats, and it’s lovely.
-1/2 cup rolled oats
-1/4 cup plain yogurt
-1/2 cup milk
-3/4 cup diced strawberries
-1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
-pinch of salt
Combine everything in a jar, shake it up a bit, and store in fridge overnight. In the morning, top with more strawberries if you’d like, some toasted almond slices, and chia seeds.
My final favorite is a cookbook. The girls and I are at my parents’ house right now, and the past couple of times I’ve been here, I’ve perused this cookbook and taken pictures. I finally decided I just needed to purchase my own copy. It’s a good one; I think you need it too. The whole book revolves around pie, so it’s really a no-brainer. There are other recipes besides pie, so basically it has all you need.
That’s all for today. I hope your weekend is full of American spirit, a patriotic outfit, good food, and some fireworks. Since we’re on the subject, this is my PSA for the day. Let’s not take a video of the fireworks display you’re watching and post it for everyone to see. We are all seeing fireworks, and they all look the same. This makes me sound like a July 4th Grinch. I’m definitely not, and I love a fireworks display just as much as Lee Greenwood, but let’s just not. Just sit back and enjoy.
Ain’t no doubt I love this land,
