Every year my school puts on a performance for Grandparents’ Day. Each class is expected to perform something that showcases what the students are learning.
It sounds fun and entertaining, right? It’s SO difficult. We have to make sure all students are involved, it’s academically centered, and timely.
And if you’re a monster like me, you have to make sure that your class’s presentation is very memorable. “Don’t you forget about me.” #breakfastclub

In the year of our Lord, 2020, our Grandparents’ Day presentation will be virtual, but last year our presentation was one of my favorites ever.
I told my principal that our class (third grade) was thinking about presenting on the Boston Tea Party in a fun and unique way. She loved the idea. Well THEN I had to think of a fun and unique way to present the Boston Tea Party. Legitimately, the thought of “what if we modernized it and made them throw La Croix off the stage” went through my head. Thank goodness that was fleeting. Pamplemousse flying towards grandparents would not have been my finest hour.
I LOVE puns (if done well), so I came up with the idea to present the Boston Tea Party from the perspective of the tea with every line being a tea-related pun. My students dressed up as cups of tea, and they were a hit.

This would be a great introduction to a colonial America unit or a fun classroom skit or it could be a presentation at a school event.

In one skit you cover: part of the American Revolution, figurative language, and point of view-basically a win-win-win.
Happy TEAching!

This is so creative and so cute!!!
Totally said the last line in my head like the Beastie Boys. Awesome!
There are many great teachers. There a few who can pull off an age appropriate, entertaining program. Love your creation!
