My friend and roommate, Marie turned thirty this weekend, and we celebrated big (as big as you can during COVID). I love a themed party, and Marie and I both love Taylor Swift ergo ThirTAY was born.
Marie’s original plan for her thirtieth was simply dinner outside with her people. Ok. We can do that, but we need a theme. The theme was a surprise, and shoutout to all of our friends for coming dressed as different Taylors.
I’m an idea person. I have ideas, and I need other people to carry them out. Let’s all dress as Taylor Swifts, and I’ll come up with a menu based on puns I can create out of her songs. Ok? Great.
I didn’t manage to get any of this salad because it was gone by the time I ate, but it was a Mediterranean mix from Trader Joe’s. And it was apparently delicious.
Spoiler alert: you put out candy, adults will snack on that instead of bougie pizza.
Photo props of lyrics from Taylor songs were obviously a necessity.
I had these prints done relatively inexpensively at Office Depot. Worth it for the statement.
What does a Taylor Swift themed birthday cake look like? Well, obviously this moment from her “Blank Space” video.
I borrowed two heart pans from some lovely moms at my school, and I used a strawberry cake recipe by the lovely Christina Wren. The cream cheese frosting was delicious, and I did 1.5x the recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction. One guest called this cake “the best part of 2020”. I mean the bar for 2020 is set kind of low, but this cake is REALLY good.
This was not my idea but was really fun and created a very unique space for us. Marie’s mom sent
a few a lot of items that she’d picked up at Goodwill for us to have this fun outdoor spot for the party. It was perfect.
And everyone got to leave with a tie dyed mask as a party favor because #2020
Happy birthday, Marie! Cheers to being “happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time”.
The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now…why? Oh……
