We are joining Momfessionals, A Little Bit of Everything, and Grace and Love to share some favorites this week.
Kat
*You know that moment when you sit down at the end of the day and turn on a JonBenet Ramsay documentary and you just need something sweet? No? Well, I know it all too well. I blame my mom for my sweet tooth. I remember one time, not too long ago, when my dad was trying to lose weight she said, “I quit baking desserts, and he has already lost some pounds.”
“How much dessert were you baking?”
“Well, I probably make a pie, some brownies, or cookies at least three or four times a week.”
WHAT?! My mom is Donna Reed.

Ree Drummond aka The Pioneer Woman aka our patron saint has been making easy recipes during quarantine on her instagram story. The other day she made chocolate cake in a mug. Now I’ve seen recipes for this dessert before, but when it’s Ree, I trust it. It’s easy. It’s delicious. It does the trick.

*Alright, this favorite goes out to my 90s/early 2000s kids. I get bored very easily. There’s a line from a Sleeping at Last song that says, “it feels like sinking when I’m standing in one place.” I feel that lyric deep in my soul. I’ve had to get creative during this time to make sure I don’t feel like I’m sinking. Enter Billy Blanks. Who else did Tae Bo in the early 2000s? I mean Tae Bo is mentioned in both a Train song and an Akon song, so it must have been popular. Well, YouTube is full of Billy Blanks workouts. I discovered this a few weeks ago and have done these workouts a couple of times. Release that aggression and do it double time.

*Anyone else? But actually, the J. Crew packages that keep showing up in my mail room have brought me immense joy. I’ve been tracking packages like Mary Kate and Ashley because honestly, what else do I have to do?

I’m currently wearing the blue light glasses that arrived last week and have the three, yes three scalloped hem skirts in the washing machine right now. It’s fine. I’m fine.
Now listen, I was wearing animal print LONG before Carole Baskin made it cool, kitten. I’m saying that quite facetiously. Don’t wear animal print like Carole. Subtle. Accent.
Also, pale/translucent feet with no polish are all the rage this season if you haven’t heard.

The three favorites I have today are an attempt to give you a little something extra to do whilst you to continue to distance yourself.
*Kat and I are clearly utilizing YouTube in all its exercise glory. Yes, she told me about TaeBo on there a few weeks ago, and yes, I have done them. I was taken back to 1999 and loved every sweaty minute of it. However, if you need another way to workout that doesn’t involve looking at a very muscular man in a leotard that showcases his pecs, try the Popsugar Fitness workouts on YouTube. They have approximately 496 million to choose from. I’ve never done one that I didn’t like, and they have a range from 10 minutes to an hour.
*My second favorite is this book; I have enjoyed it so much.

I loved Jessica Simpson back in the day and always tuned in for Newlyweds. I usually felt like a physicist compared to her, but who didn’t?

I wouldn’t say this is a very intellectual memoir; I wouldn’t compare it to a Stephen Hawking autobiography. But honestly, I don’t own anything written by Stephen Hawking. This is evidenced by this embarrassment that is in a stash of my books of yore.

Anyways, I’ve thorougly enjoyed it, and maybe you will too.
*A couple of weeks ago some friends and I were chatting (not in person obviously), and we were going back and forth with random questions. One asked if someone had to play you in a movie about your life, who would you choose. I chose Mindy Kaling. I mean it’s very clear that we look identical.
Anyways, I think she’s the best and wish I had just an ounce of her brilliance and creativity. I found this movie she wrote and thought it was the perfect distraction from all of this craziness. It’s free on Amazon Prime.

Hopefully, we provided you with something to occupy your weekend. We’ve given you all you need: treats in a mug, workouts, and entertainment.
Come back on Monday for our salute to the 90s.
Stay well, friends.

Making that mug dessert today, and I may make it right now even though it’s 9 am. Gotta live it up.
My name is Kat, and I approve of this comment.
I loved the Jessica Simpson memoir. I remember nights at college having Newlywed viewing parties!! So fun! Think strawberries, angel food cake and whipped cream. Haha!!
I can’t wait to try out some of those YouTube fitness videos, especially the PopSugar ones. The Billy Blanks ones would sure take me back to the 90s. Almost to “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” with Mama.
Yas Queen.
Just found your blog, and I’ll be back. Y’all are so fun!
