Put away your Ugg boots and cue the hallelujah chorus because it’s the first day of spring. If you listen really closely, you can probably hear a white girl opening up a can of coconut La Croix right about now.
Now, let’s take a peek inside our “Spring Somethings.”
Something to Watch
Caroline-Yall. The Lord provides. The Bachelor just ended, which left me without a show on Monday night, which I’m very used to by this time in the year. Well, once we finished watching Mr. Pilot end up alone, Spring Baking Championship appears on The Food Network. I realize these shows could not be more different, but I’m an onion; I have layers. I honestly love the Holiday Baking Championship that comes on around Christmas more because of all the Christmasy flavors, but this one is very good too. I am always amazed at what these people can do. I have made the same cheesecake about 97 times, but I always want the recipe in front of me. I don’t know how they know how to make pate a choux or macarons from memory. It’s so impressive and so fun to watch. Give it a try if you never have.
Kat- As I’m typing this it’s like I can see Caroline rolling her eyes and saying, “Kaaaaaaatttt” loudly as she exhales. Whatever. Go with me on this. I’m one of those people who just utilizes Netflix, so I’m never going to know what the latest trend on network television is. If you watch the news or simply have a phone, the world seems pretty ominous right now. Do you know what we need? We need calm. We need peaceful. We need beauty. We need Bob Ross. I’m serious.
As a child, I would come home from my stressful days in elementary school, get a Fudge Round, and watch ” The Joy of Painting.” As an adult, when I can’t sleep, I turn on “The Joy of Painting.” It’s the most soothing. I cannot think of one single person in the world who would say, “Nah. I don’t need a stress reliever. I’m good.” No. You’re not. You need Bob. We need Bob.

Something to Buy
Caroline-Why is everything in my life about food? Oh well.
One of my favorite cooking inspirations releases a new cookbook at the beginning of April, and it will be on my shelf as soon as I can get my hands on it. She is all about eating real food and not jumping from diet to diet.

Kat- OK. I tried to think of something relevant. But practical. And I also wanted to support someone other than Amazon during this time. Ergo Etsy. My mom is Howie Mandel-like when it comes to germs. She always opens doors using her sleeve or sweater. If you pump gas, she has the hand sanitizer ready for you when you get back in the car. But also I won’t tell you what item she is notorious for leaving on the kitchen counter that counteracts the Howie Mandelness. If you can guess it in the comments, I will send you my pick for the “something to buy.” I bought my mom one of these years ago because I knew she’d love it. Pretty sure she’s lost it, but I still think it’s a great idea. We are all super sensitive to germs right now, but I think we will all be more vigilant when this passes. This purse hanger is the perfect addition to your bag for a dinner out. Get. That. Nice. Bag. Off. The. Floor. It deserves better. And by “nice” I mean from Target but not the clearance section.
Something to Wear
Caroline-Let me live in comfortable rompers when it’s warm. I’ve bought one from this Amazon brand before and loved it. Do I know where it is now? No. Moving twice in six months will do that. When more sunshine appears, I’ll be getting another one.
Kat- I fell into the jumpsuit trend, and I fell hard. Never mind the fact that you’re naked when you go to the bathroom in a public place. I love dresses because they are a one and done. I love jumpsuits for the same reason. This one is perfect for me because I’m 5’3″ and I need cuffs at my ankles to make sure I don’t look like I’m wearing Lee pipes. Anyone remember those? Let’s NOT bring them back but long live the jumpsuit.

Something to Eat
Caroline-When it’s warm, I want all things berry and citrus. These strawberry crisps are the perfect dessert to welcome spring, and they are even more welcoming with ice cream on top.

Kat- In the spring, I want all the coconut and lemon. To quote Stillwell Angel, “Gimme. Gimme. Gimme.” I love this sheetpan dinner from Well Plated. Her recipes are always easy and healthy, and the fewer dishes that I have to do post dinner, the better. The lemon gives it a great flavor, and I love that you can customize the vegetables based on your taste preferences. Give this dinner a whirl, and if you have any great lemon based dishes or desserts, send them my way. I’m home all the time these days. I might as well develop a skill.

Something to Do
Caroline-Honestly, my “something to do” should be to get some color on these vampire-like legs of mine. I think though my “something to do” is start a garden, and by start a garden I mean get my mother to get us going. Claire has been wanting one and talking about it after we read about one in book. Since I know as much about growing vegetables as I do the Stock Market, Pippy will be coming over to help. Claire told me she wants to grow cheese, so I hope Pippy has some tricks up her sleeve.
Kat- Every time I go on a trip I make a Shutterfly or Snapfish book of the pictures. I need to make one of my Ireland trip while things are still fresh on my mind. I sat down to start making it the other day, and I got VERY distracted because Snapfish was running a special of photo coffee mugs for 49 cents. I lost my mind and ordered quite a few. I cannot begin to express the stress that came with choosing exactly what pictures to encapsulate the container of my morning beverage with a splash of cream. I felt like Michael Scott when he’s trying to decide what to write on the wet cement outside Dunder Mifflin then settles on his face.

Now, go get springy.

Granddaddy is headed out this morning with a shopping list, and cheese seeds are at the top of it. We can make this happen, Claire! And I’m doing that sheet pan dinner next week if Publix has asparagus in stock, Happy Friday!
Pippy, I ‘m with you on opening doors with my sleeve or the bottom of my shirt. I’m sure I’ve exposed my midriff to many people that can never unsee it😩 Keep me posted on the cheese seed planting, growing, and harvesting. Kat and Caroline, i love your postings. I look forward to them!
Thanks for reading! Stay safe out there!
Did you buy Paula a phone sanitizer?
I bought Paula a purse hanger, but that’s not what she FREQUENTLY leaves on the counter.
Adorable jumpsuit and romper!
Thank you!
Hmmm what does Paula leave on her counter? I’m thinking of my counter cause I sound very similar to Paula!! She’s a smart lady. 😉 Is it hand sanitizer or a bottle of sanitizing spray? Loved reading this! 🥰
You’d think it would be hand sanitizer, but you’d be incorrect. It’s not a usual counter item nor is it sanitary. Sorry, Mom.
While I acknowledge the 10 year age gap between us, I had no idea of the stresses you incurred as a child, Kat. Your need for quiet time and highly charged caffeine drinks as an elementary student makes me wonder. So glad Bob Ross could be there to brighten your days.
Cheese gardens are the best Claire Bear!
Not much has changed.
Sadly, Kitty is a liar today. I really hate to do this, but I DO NOT leave my purse on the counter, and I am sure of this. I only have two summer purses and two winter purses, so I very rarely change them ( sad but true — I am frugal and very low maintenance!) However, the reason I KNOW I do not leave them on the counter is that I leave them in the car in the garage — always. But the purse hanger is a marvelous idea, and I am all for it for everybody. Poor Kitty! She’s had a rough week teaching via computer, and I get that so let’s cut her some slack.
Dial back the language. Didn’t say you left your purse on the counter. I said that you left an item on the counter than counter-balanced your germaphobe-ness. AND I have photographic evidence of said item, so come at me, Pip.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
1. Paula and Kat- I own a purse hanger and forgot I had one! Now I need to go digging in my closet for it. Not that I’ll be eating out anytime soon… thanks Corona.
2. Caroline- That strawberry crisp looks DELICIOUS. Also… just so you know, my mom has been watching my 2yo niece while my sister still works and daycares are closed, and she was asking me for fun crafts and entertainment ideas. I promptly sent her your post about fine motor activities! So, somewhere in Tempe, Arizona, Linda is snooping on pics of Claire and loving the ideas. 😁 Thanks!
Yas! Thanks for reading and sharing with Linda!
