Before we begin this salute to syrup, we offered up a gift card on one of our posts last week. Melanie was our winner for her beautifully, awkward story. If you didn’t read it, click here. Thank you to everyone who commented; you’re all winners in our eyes.

Kat
I was spending time with my nephew a few weeks ago, and he said, “I’ve only been here six years. There’s a lot I don’t know.” That resonated with me. There is a lot I don’t know, but when it comes to breakfast food, I’m a SME.

If I could eat breakfast for every meal, I probably would. I mean I’m an adult, so I could, but you know #healthjourney. Now, I’m not an “egg whites only” type breakfast person like someone that perhaps I share this blog with. I’m a sweet breakfast person. It’s dessert when you wake up the way the Lord intended it.

When I turned 30 last August (it still pains me to write that number), my friends participated in a “breakfast crawl.” These lovely people woke up early to walk through Atlanta in the hot August sun to indulge my crazy love of syrup.

Naturally, I’m going to tell you the Top 5 places to get pancakes in and around Atlanta.
Number 5: Pancakes at Superica.
Those of you who aren’t from Atlanta should know that Superica is a Mexican restaurant. It has some of the best salsa verde of my life, but on Sundays, they do brunch. And they do it well. These were HUGE and delcious. As poet laureate Honey Boo Boo once said, “More butter. More better.”

Number Four: Banana Pudding Pancakes at Tupelo Honey.
Nothing says Southern like banana pudding. One of my favorite quotes from my best friend of twenty five years is, “I remember that year. That was the year I found out that banana pudding had bananas in it.” Referring to the year she was thirteen. Bless her heart. Shoutout to you, Whitney.

Number Three: Blueberry Lemon Ricotta Pancakes at Basecamp.
Yes. I traveled OTP (outside the [Atlanta] perimeter) for this post. Basecamp is in Marietta. It’s about a thirty minute drive from my apartment, but it was worth it. I always love blueberry and lemon paired together, but they had SO many other options. I need to go back for more *ahem* “research”.

Number Two: Peanut Butter Banana Pancakes at Folk Art
This was the grand finale of my birthday breakfast crawl. You just can’t go wrong with peanut butter. Ever. Could these pancakes bring about world peace? I truly think so.

Number one: The Chicken Biscuit and Pimento Cheese Grits at Buttermilk Kitchen. Wait, what?

If you’ve made it this far, you’re probably saying to yourself, “Kat, I thought this was about pancakes. What are you doing?” I know. I’m sorry for the confusion, but hear me out. Buttermilk Kitchen is known for their pancakes, and I have had them. They are delicious. But this chicken biscuit. I could salivate just thinking about it. The biscuit is perfectly crunchy on the outside yet soft on the inside. It’s slathered in pepper jelly, and the chicken has been marinated in sweet tea. I don’t eat grits, but I eat them at Buttermilk Kitchen. They have pimento cheese in them for goodness sakes. If I forgo pancakes, for an alternate dish, then you know it’s noteworthy. It’s my absolute favorite breakfast in Atlanta. One Sunday I spent four hours at Buttermilk Kitchen. One sixth of my day. #noregrets

If you feel the need to go to any of these places (which you should), call me. I’ll meet you and out eat you.

Thank you so much for the Gift Card. I can’t believe my embarrassing, cringe-worthy moment is worthy of a reward. Thank you. The funny thing is that I sent an email to my friend, Teresa to ask her if she remembered that horrible event and she didn’t remember that our family even stayed with her. I was thankful that I didn’t scar her.
What a beautiful, syrupy post!
Maybe that could also be the title of my memoir, “Beautiful and Syrupy”
Blueberry and lemon ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!
