Game Changer: Color Coordinating my Closet

It was recently pointed out to me that I care more about spaces that people don’t see than the ones they do. It’s true. If you get in my car, chances are I’m going to say, “Hang on. Let me throw this in the backseat.” This being any number of things: a jacket, some mail, an anvil. You never know. I have zero embarrassment about this. It’s who I am. I’m on the go and have to be prepared for any given moment. It’s my Troop Beverly Hills training. “In the wilderness of life, we can never be too prepared.”
However, my closet is in pristine condition and my sheets are folded like it’s Bed, Bath, and Beyond. No one else sees this, but it brings me joy.

I’m always clinging to 90s nostalgia, and I have a fantastic memory so it’s easy for me to do. Does anyone else remember the episodes of Home Improvement when Tim would do the “man” rooms on Tool Time? Those were some of my favorites. I loved the attention to details and the creativity behind those episodes. My absolute favorite one was when he redid Jill’s closet. Her shoes came out on a turntable to the March from The Nutcracker for goodness sake. That closet has been my dream since 1993. I don’t know that it will ever happen because I have yet to become and/or meet Scrooge McDuck, but I do love how I’ve made lemonade from lemons in my closet.

A few years ago, I started color coordinating my closet- ROYGBIV style. Not only is it visually appealing, but it makes rushed mornings SO much easier. “Where is my black cardigan?” BAM. It’s with my other black tops. “Where is my purple floral dress?” With the other purples of course (of which there are few, but you catch the drift).

I have my clothes separated by: dresses, tops, skirts, and pants. All color coordinated. It’s worth the extra time it takes to organize. Trust me.

I highly endorse the color coded closet, and I’m one of the most unorganized people. So it must definitely be a game changer.
