Winter is our least favorite season. Once Christmas is over, we’re ready for mid March. Anyone else? But here are our “season somethings”.
Something to eat:
My slow cooker is my best friend during the winter. I love when I get home from school and dinner is done, so I can focus on important things, like rewatching The Office for the 436th time. This butternut squash soup is a favorite. It’s easy and nutrient filled. Pro tip: buy frozen butternut squash. DO NOT try and chop one up. I almost lost a digit. Lesson learned.
Caroline I don’t particularly love winter, but it means soup season, which I love. I recently made this roasted cauliflower soup. from Two Peas and their Pod. Don’t be scared by a cauliflower soup; it’s delicious. It calls for thyme, and I didn’t have that one time I made it and used oregano and actually liked that better.
Something to watch:
My roommate recently made me watch the movie, Peanut Butter Falcon. I have movie anxiety in that I’d much rather watch a show. It’s less of a time commitment, but she was insistent that I would like it. I used to teach special education inclusion and currently volunteer in the special needs classroom at my church. This movie stars a man with Downs Syndrome, and it is absolutely wonderful. I cannot recommend it enough.
Every January it’s the same ol’ thing. I always enjoy winter because a new season of The Bachelor begins. You might think it’s a dumb show to watch, and you’re probably right. However, if you’re ever feeling like you’re a tad bit crazy, just watch one night of this show, and you’ll feel better about yourself. I mean I credit this show with my motto whenever I walk into a crowded Trader Joe’s- “I’m not here to make friends. Get me to the Joe Joe’s.” If you’re a fan, you should check out her recaps every week. It makes watching even better.
Something to buy:
I have been giving these socks as gifts quite frequently this winter, and all the recipients have given them rave reviews. Yes, I give socks as gifts. Just one of the many perks of being my friend. But I guess I need to buy a pair for myself.
Like I said, bring on the soups. I recently bought these bowls, and it just makes the experience of eating cauliflower soup whilst watching The Bachelor on the couch all that more enjoyable. I know how to have a good time.
Something to wear:
I have been wearing this sweatshirt on repeat all winter, and I always get compliments on it. I recently took my nephews ice skating, and I had to rent supports for them to hold. I needed three, and the guy at the counter said, “I’m only going to charge you for two because I like your sweatshirt.”
Since I’m not working right now, all I do is wear sweatshirts. I’m really a beautiful sight everyday. This one from Target is like wearing butter. Cute butter. Not Country Crock.
Something to do:
I need to finish crocheting a blanket that I started for my niece, Claire during the summer. Yes. The summer. There was an influx of procreation amongst my friends, so I was crocheting all. the. time. Grandma needed a break. It’s a super easy pattern, and during the doldrums of January, I need to pick it back up and finish. I already told you, I’m not a closer.
I’m not at a point in my life where I can go to the gym. Mark is gone all the time, and there are these three little people in my house that are somewhat needy. If it’s nice outside, I immediately head out on a walk, but many days the weather doesn’t allow it. If I have a few minutes, I try and do a yoga workout. I love her videos . She has anything from 15 min-1 hour.
Thank you for reading today. We hope you’ll come back on Friday. We will be having a political forum and sharing who we think should win the upcoming presidential election.
